Borgo Egnazia, a stunning luxury resort located on the Adriatic Coast of Puglia, Italy, is launching a new, innovative wellness program this Spring. The six-day long program called FU’RE, which means “outside” in local Apulian dialect, is an innovative, non-conventional fitness program that focuses on activities geared to cleanse and revitalize the mind, body and soul while capitalizing on the current trend of promoting mindfulness and healthy living.
Borgo Egnazia’s award winning VAIR Spa, already recognized for its progressive wellness treatments, is the ideal setting for this new program, which will take place in both the 19,000 square foot spa as well as under beautiful olive trees on the stunning grounds surrounding the property. The FU’RE wellness program will adhere to VAIR’S philosophy of incorporating local traditions as well as ingredients, and will combine a series of indoor and outdoor experiences that will leave guests feeling energized and rejuvenated. The aim of the week long retreat is to go beyond traditional weight management but to also improve vital functions, promote concentration, reduce stress, and counteract mental and physical aging.
The FU’RE wellness program capitalizes on the benefits of the Mediterranean diet and the region’s culture and Borgo Egnazia’s talented staff of spa therapists, yoga instructors, psychologists and dieticians form a cohesive team that guide guests through every step of this unique program. For example, fitness activities are inspired by local dance, and boot camp training, so someone doing the program can expect to partake in ethnic dance or juggling. Relaxation and stress reducing treatments are also part of the program which includes music therapy and saltwater flotation sessions in VAIR’s Roman baths. Participants eat regional cuisine that feature the freshest local ingredients, some of which are grown on the property. Guests are taught to be responsible for their food choices (which they record in a journal during the program) in a way that will translate into their every day life after the program is over.
“The FU’RE program is a distinctive experience that incorporates as much about Puglia as possible. We conduct fitness class outside and by the sea but also try to bring in the Apulian culture through traditions such as local dance and music” says Borgo Egnazia Owner Aldo Melpignano. “It’s different than most fitness programs because we really have a philosophy to enjoy life. The workouts are intense and produce results, but we also want guests to truly enjoy their time at Borgo Egnazia.”
FU’RE is available at two intensity levels. The Low Intensity program, recommended for those who are beginners, and a High Intensity program geared towards people who work out regularly. A typical day begins at 9:00 am with an intense outdoor workout by the sea or in the nearby countryside, among the olive trees. The afternoon session, which goes from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm includes additional exercise and spa activities such as massages, detox treatments, and yoga.
“FU’RE is special because it makes you appreciate the joy of movement and the effect that it has on your body. Guests mental limitations are tested with the adventurous activities offered, and by enjoying the Mediterranean Diet, guests really learn how to make healthier choices in their own lives” says Spa Director Patrizia Bortolin.
Food is the final component of the FU’RE wellness program. A passionate expert of the Mediterranean diet, VAIR’s resident dietician Dr. Agostino Grassi works closely with the Chefs at Borgo Egnazia to create customized menus for guests and their dietary needs using only the freshest local ingredients, some of which are grown directly on property. Using the latest tools of measurement, Dr. Grassi teaches guests to pay attention to what and when they eat. A highly specialized state of the art scale measures guests’ body mass composition and distribution of weight, gives them an idea of their “physical” age, their ideal weight and also provides information on calories and physical activity that would be ideal for them. Ultimately however, it is up to the guest to be responsible for their food choices, which can they record in a food journal.
A delicious Mediterranean lunch is served between the two fitness sessions and every evening ends with a healthy dinner featuring local and seasonal products as well as Apulian specialties at one of Borgo Egnazia’s four restaurants. The ultimate goal of FU’RE is to produce long lasting changes that are also sustainable in one’s everyday life.
The price of the FU’RE program is €1,350 Euros (approximately $1,800 USD) for six days, in addition to accommodation. Room rates begin at €220.00 ($286) for a standard room in La Corte. Guests are welcome to choose any accommodation of their preference at Borgo Egnazia.
