The Spanish company, Geeksphone has just launched the first Firefox OS smartphones. Their aim is to create a buzz and attract developers, because as we all know, a phone and an operation system are nothing nowadays, without a strong set of apps that work smoothly.”The Geeksphone devices will allow developers to test the capabilities of Firefox OS in a real environment, testing characteristics such as real performance and interaction with the mobile network.” In other words, the developers can explore Firefox operation system’s capabilities, get creative and start developing apps! They can choose from two different models: Keon and Peak.
First, there’s Keon, a 3.5 inch orange smartphone with HVGA screen, 3MP camera, 1 GHz single-core processor and 512 MB RAM. Price: 91,00 euros, without VAT.
Second there’s Peak (its bigger white ‘brother’). The white device is a little bit more powerful, featuring a 4.3 inch qHD screen, 8 MP camera and 1.2GHz dual-core CPU with 512MB RAM. Price: 149,00 euros, without VAT. Indie developers have already started to make some cool apps and games, but it took the launch to make this move official. Anyway, in case you are not convinced that Firefox OS is a good investment, you can install the Firefox OS Simulator , in order to test and explore it as much as you want!
