One of our favorite gadget gurus, Joshua Topolsky, has officially launched his new technology news site The Verge at http://www.theverge.com. Formally the editor-in-chief of AOL’s Engadget, Topolsky is also joined by former Engadget writers Nilay Patel, Joanna Stern, and many more. The publisher and co-founder of the new technology-focused news publication is Marty Moe in partnership with Vox Media and its CEO Jim Bankoff. According to their website, their mission “…is to offer breaking news coverage and in-depth reporting, product information, and community content via a unified, modern platform.” Topolsky and many talented writers departed Engadget after the Huffington Post-ization of AOL blogs… In addition to being the editor-in-chief and co-founder of The Verge, Topolsky is also the resident tech expert on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. His new venture is creating great buzz on Techmeme, Twitter and Business Insider… The latter interviewed Topolsky and Moe, bashing TechCrunch in the process:

Business Insider: Can you give me an overview of what The Verge is?
Topolsky: First and foremost, we’re a technology-focused news site, and it has a couple of different components…
Moe: …To be clear, we’re a consumer technology company. This is not the land of TechCrunch… — read more

Kara Swisher of All Things D previewed their new site, adding: “From my quick perusal, it has a vibrant and slick design, with a lot of packed boxes, swooshy movement and plenty of content. Along with the launch, The Verge’s parent company — formerly doing business as SB Nation, focused on sports — will also transform into Vox Media.”

The Verge site is split into six sections – products, reviews, features, show, podcast and forums. The site looks great, is easy-to-use, and has endless product information, news and discussions. The Verge already kicks the asses of the stale Gizmodo (bring back Brian) and Arriana-slayed Engadget and TechCrunch. I mean, just reading Topolsky’s interview with John Gruber shows his natural ability to merge technology with humor — and the reason why The Verge is the clear winner, only after one day. Topol adds:

“We’re focused on bringing you — our extremely savvy and frankly very handsome readers — the best and most comprehensive coverage of the consumer technology world. Not just the nuts and bolts, 24-hour news cycle stuff, but more in-depth coverage, bigger stories, and content that goes further.”

And they have…
