Fashion designers and dolls make a desirable pair! We have seen Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Dior and the likes design dolls for a noble cause. Also Hervé Léger and Stephen Jones have given Barbie fashionable makeovers. On the scene is Jason Wu with a limited edition doll too for Montaigne Market.
The New York-based fashion designer has clad the doll in a miniature version of one of his exclusive creation. Wu has been known for designing the dresses for Michelle Obama. However not all are aware of his history with dolls. The Taiwanese-Canadian fashion designer started his career has a doll designer to graduate on to a fashion designer for real-life dolls.
Located in Paris, the multi-brand shop on Avenue Montaigne offers an incredible choice of ultra luxury and cosmopolitan styles. Along with offering Wu’s ready-to-wear collection, the store will also sell ready-to-pick doll for about $200. The chic doll has been dressed in dazzling gold sequined skirt, topped with a smart cream belted jacket from his Spring 2014 collection. Holding a mini Daphne clutch in one hand, the Parisan Jason Wu doll’s other hand is full of small shopping bags of the store. Exclusive to Montaigne Market store, she will be available in a limited edition of 300 pieces February onwards.
This isn’t the first time Jason has designed a doll for shopalicious destinations. He has already created dolls for Bergdorf Goodman and Jeffrey in New York as well as Colette in Paris.
Summing up his experience of dolling up, Jason Wu says, “It’s sort of my background, so it’s kind of a tongue-in-cheek thing to do this once in a while. I mean, I worked 10 years as a toy designer before I started my career as a fashion designer. It’s something I just fell into and really liked.”
