As with most tech gadgets, some journalists have had the chance to review the item prior to the launch. With the eagerly anticipated iPhone 4, it some of the publications with early reviews were The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and Engadget.
Reviews have been excellent, but there were no answers as to whether the new unit alleviates the problems of AT&T’s overloaded network.
Here’s some snippets of reviews:
We’re not going to beat around the bush — in our approximation, the iPhone 4 is the best smartphone on the market right now. The combination of gorgeous new hardware, that amazing display, upgraded cameras, and major improvements to the operating system make this an extremely formidable package. – Engadget
I’d say that Apple has built a beautiful smartphone that works well, adds impressive new features and is still, overall, the best device in its class. – WSJ
The result is beautiful, and since there’s no more plastic, it feels solid and Lexus-like. But it no longer feels like a soothing worry stone, and it’s now impossible to tell by touch which way it’s facing in your pocket. The new metal mute and volume buttons are much stiffer. Still, Apple says the iPhone 4 is the world’s thinnest smartphone, and most people will approve of the trade-offs. – NY Times
As with previous iPhones, the latest model breaks new ground. FaceTime video calling on the iPhone 4 is one of those cool “seeing is believing” features, and it arrives on top of several across-the-board enhancements. And iOS 4 is a mostly terrific software upgrade. Cutting through the hype, Apple has given longtime diehards, and first-time iPhone owners, plenty to cheer about. – USA Today
