According to an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter, each bottle of Bogart’s Real English Gin will feature the actor’s face and a classic Bogie quote.
In addition to being Bogart’s tipple of choice, you could say gin was also in his blood.
“Gin was invented in The Netherlands and perfected in England, and Humphrey Bogart is of Dutch and English ancestry,” explained partner and entrepreneur Jonathan Kendrickin an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“My father loved gin,” said Stephen Bogart, son of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, “so I am thrilled about this partnership. For the Bogart Estate to lend my father’s name to a project, we look for a great partner and an authentic connection. It doesn’t get any better than teaming with the co-founder of Patron Tequila to bring Bogart’s Gin to the world. Like Bogie, the gin is classic, no-nonsense, and smooth.”
Bogart’s gin will be crafted in Cambridgeshire, England, using traditional distilling methods that use copper pot stills.
The spirit is made with juniper berries, five varieties of coriander, crushed macadamia nuts and citrus zests and is described as a complex, smooth, citrusy spirit.
Bottles are set to hit US liquor store shelves in November or December.
Bogart’s not the only American leading man from the 1940s and 50s to have a spirit created in his honor, posthumously.
Whiskey-maker Jack Daniel’s created a special tribute bottle for actor and crooner Frank Sinatra, the Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select. While Bogie was partial to gin, Sinatra was a noted fan of whiskey.Throughout his stage career from the 1950s to the 1990s, one of Sinatra’s signature gestures was to offer a toast to his audience with a glass of Jack Daniel’s in his hand.
