The Mustang Shelby GT500 is the current leader of today’s muscle cars, with its 5.4-liter supercharged V8 churning out 550 ponies. But that’s not good enough for Ford.
MustangsDaily is reporting that the Shelby’s 5.4L Supercharged engine will be upgraded to a 5.8L for 2013. Word is that the new engine will up the power to as high as 620hp.
The move by Ford is a direct response to the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which will be released shortly and pack 580hp.
The new mustang will be built at the Romeo Engine Assembly Plant in Romeo, Michigan.
