The one month window to apply for the opportunity to place an order on the all new $425,000 Ford GT is now over. 6506 individuals have thrown their hats in the ring to become one of the 250 owners of the Supercar that won its first professional race two weeks ago at Laguna Seca. There are apparently a lot more dreamers than buyers, however, as over 200,000 people took the time to go online to FordGT.com and configure the car as they would buy it.
For also announced they were adding Carbon Fiber wheels as an option to the new GT. These wheels, first used on the incredible Shelby GT350R Mustang lower the GT’s unsprung weight by over 2 pounds per wheel, while cutting rotational mass. The new wheels – sized 8.5 x 20 in./front, and 11.5 x 20 in./rear – replace the standard 10-spoke lightweight forged aluminum set, are stiffer and transmit fewer vibrations from the road. They improve the car’s handling as well and are available in both gloss and matte finishes.
We’ll have more news and a driving impression for the new GT as soon as it is available.
