The first official images of the 2014 Maserati Ghibli have been revealed. The new Ghibli has a the long hood, pronounced nose and grille, and powerful rear fenders. The interior image shows off a sporty design with strong Italian influences.
Not a much is known of the Ghibli’s specs, but here’s what we have so far: the Ghibli is based on a scaled-down version of the same platform architecture that underpins the larger Quattroporte. The Ghibli will sport a new turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that should produce more than 400 horsepower. There will also be a turbo diesel available – at least in Europe. The transmission will be the the same ZF 8-speed automatic used in the Quattroporte.
Maserati has built the Ghibli to challenge the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
The Ghibli is to be unveiled at the 2013 Shanghai Auto show later this month.
