Ferrari is at it again, tempting us with more sinuous bodywork draped in liquid red.
The gorgeous 458 GTB you see here is scheduled to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in a few weeks and when it does, expect orders to pile up fast.
Ferrari claims the new mid-engined masterpiece from Maranello will go from 0-200 kph (122 mph) in just 8.3 seconds and has lapped their famed Fiorano test track in just 1:23, a mere 3 seconds slower than a LaFerrari. These remarkable feats of performance have been achieved by a combination of advanced electronics, improved engine technology, uncompromising platform architecture and rocket-science level aerodynamics.
This new Berlinetta features a 3.9 Liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that makes 661 horsepower. The amazing thing is the power is available early and often thanks to a broad torque curve that begins at just 2,000 rpm and pulls all the way up to the red line. The 7-speed transmission features Variable Torque Management, deploying the engine’s power smoothly across the rev range at full throttle.
As for aerodynamics, that may be the car’s greatest achievement. Its 1.67 efficiency figure is a new record for a production Ferrari. Even more remarkable than its slipperiness is that it produces 50 percent more downforce than the previous model. This was achieved by a double front spoiler, active aerodyanmics side intakes nd a blown spoiler at the rear. The undercarriage has also been sculpted for maximum performance and efficiency.
Designed by the Ferrari in Maranello, the 488 GTB features a large signature air intake scallop harkening back to the original 308 GTB making it both thoroughly modern while still honoring its roots.
