A look at some of the 2010 spring collections.
There were probably a few women who knew how Phoebe Philo felt on Monday as she tried to console her sobbing young daughter, Maya, and receive the well-deserved congratulations for her first collection for Celine — and her return to the fashion scene. Maya gripped her mother tightly. Ms. Philo smiled as guests closed in. She had already said hello to Bernard Arnault, the chairman of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, which owns Celine. A reporter asked what she wanted to accomplish with her first collection. Ms. Philo sighed. “Clean it up and refocus it and …” She paused and smiled. “I don’t know what else.” The answer was on the runway. Ms. Philo, who left Chloé four years ago to spend time with her family in London, spelled out very clearly that Celine means modern sportswear. The Paris runways have been blindingly excessive. One sees, and doesn’t see. – From NY Times
