With a little help from the White House, a nonprofit group won approval on Thursday to set up an open-air farmers market near the Executive Mansion, a city official said. The nonprofit group, Fresh Farm Markets, already operates several farmers markets in Washington and Maryland. Last week, the group applied for a city permit to close Vermont Avenue Northwest between H and I Streets to traffic for its newest market near the White House. “The permit was approved today,’’ said John Lisle, a spokesman for the city’s department of transportation. The market will be open on Thursdays from Sept. 17 through Oct. 29. – from NYTimes
