Designing a unique place for all the family to spend time together outside their home can prove to be difficult. This simple and memorable contemporary family café is located in Bucharest, Romania and was designed by Studio NUCA . It is a colorful retreat that answers to both the needs of children and adults.
Entitled “Phill”, this creative family café is built in connection to a central elephant sculpture, that sets a playful tone for the entire design. The elephant is also a defining element for the unit, very hard to forget by children visiting it. The hangout is structured on two floors, each with its own functionality. The first level hosts a generous playground, a multipurpose room and a small, colorful café, while the upper floor accommodates a slightly larger restaurant. The playroom has several round windows, which parents can look through while in the café, in order to check out on their kids. Each room comes with its own lighting scheme and acoustic system.
Various projects especially envisioned for children are held in the “Phill” café, most of them taking place in the multipurpose room. Ballet lessons, movie projections and theater plays are just some of the events held here.
