“I tried to start a conga line [on the plane]… but it didn’t really work,” Ellie Goulding grumbled coyly as she kicked off the drinking, dancing (and maybe a little debauchery) that was dubbed Bacardi Triangle last weekend.
The party couldn’t start early enough for the popular blonde British performer, who joined fans on a private party flight from London to Puerto Rico’s Palomino Island for the first ever multi-day music festival hosted by the Bacardi family brand.
“I’ve done a lot of touring over the past couple of years, so it’s always good to break it up with cool stuff like this,” shared the high-energy singer, who was looking forward to enjoying her first experience in Puerto Rico as much as performing with event co-headliners Kendrick Lamar and Calvin Harris at the event’s culmination.
“Hopefully I remember how to sing, because I haven’t done a show for about a month.”
Fun for Goulding, and Bacardi’s 1862 gratis guests, leading up to the big island performance included a costumed cocktail party at the Waldorf Astoria El Conquistador resort’s water park — it seems she opted for her stylist’s slutty costume over her own choice of Mr. Blobby — and enjoying almost ’round the clock DJ music at the properties many pools.
And, of course, there was no way anyone on that island was running out of rum.
Goulding admitted she’d be seeking some out before her set: “To be honest, I always have a drink before I perform. I feel like, if I just have a drink, I just feel a little more pumped and excited. I mean, I don’t get drunk — that would be a bad idea — but I’ll probably have a couple.”
And how does the gal who performs and parties hard like her pour? Apparently, just the same.
“Straight up, on the rocks. That’s me; I’m that kind of girl.”
