Dessert for breakfast?
Cronut inventor and New York pastry chef Dominque Ansel is at it again by launching another headline-grabbing dessert: the Waffogato. His latest creation is an innovative twist on the classic Italian post-meal treat affogato, in which strong hot espresso is poured over a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
In Ansel’s version, affogato is made into a breakfast treat as vanilla ice cream takes the shape of a waffle and is made with Belgium waffle bits. Over the cold creamy bar, he pours maple syrup-scented espresso.
Then, as the ice cream melts, tapioca pearls are revealed and float in the pool of melted vanilla ice cream, he explains on Instagram.
The dessert was created for a charity event in New York. The chef stated via his Instagram page:
Created the #Waffogato for Taste of a Nation tonight (and soon to be in store when it warms up): vanilla ice cream waffle with Belgium waffle bits, slightly salted, and topped with maple-syrup espresso poured on top. As the ice cream melts, little tapioca pearls are revealed and float in the melted ice cream espresso sauce. #affogato #waffle #dessertforbreakfast #totn
Since creating the world famous doughnut-croissant hybrid, the Cronut last year, Ansel has shot to meteoric fame.
