A collaboration between a luxury Italian fashion house and Italian manufacturer of upmarket domestic appliances gives rise to a cool household product. Dolce & Gabbana and SMEG have launched a limited edition collection of FAB28 SMEG fridges that have been created by local Sicilian artists under the personal direction of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The cool Frigoifero d’Arte (Refrigerator of Art) collection comprises of 100 pieces of the hand-painted household appliance that will add color and art to the decor along with serving purpose too. The SMEG FAB28 refrigerator has played the role of a canvas to hold the scenes and patterns inspired by elements of the country’s beloved marionette theater and the colorful, Gypsy-like decoration of traditional, Sicilian horse-pulled carts. Los Angeles Times states that the artists interpreted the direction with vibrant, sun-drenched palettes depicting medieval knights, famous battle scenes, Italian lore, the area’s bountiful lemons, folksy patterns, and the three-legged Trinacria design symbolizing the head of Medusa and the triangular shape of the island of Sicily.Created for Milan-based furniture fair, Salone Internazionale del Mobilen, the fancy and fashionable fridges will cater to those who crave for uniqueness and statement-making products. SMEG has partnered with haute couture fashion label for the first time to roll out Dolce & Gabbana Smeg fridges which are designed not only to look good but also keep foodstuff cool in the most stunning manner. Sporting a $34,000 tag, the refrigerator will be available directly through SMEG.
