Overlooking the Gange River in India, this fascinating weekend retreat treats its owners like royalty. The Rishikesh House, designed by Rajiv Saini, can be admired after a stroll down the undulating driveway, when two 12ft high locally resourced masonry walls meet the eye. An enclosed courtyard with walls on three sides and the imposing teak wood doors at the entrance welcome guests inside. Situated on a slightly elevated hillside, the Rishikesh House spreads over 640 square meters, capturing admiration with every space.
The three-bedroom single family house was designed to offer the owners many entertaining spaces to enjoy alongside family and friends. A timber deck overlooking the Gange River nearby offers the opportunity of relaxing in the presence of the river’s undulating shape that also inspired the architecture of the house. The interiors were designed to be as social and modern as possible: a teak enclosed dining space, a lowered living room downstairs or the fascinating glazed windows – each offer entertaining and relaxation scenarios.
