Drawing attention with its unusual roof line, the Redding Residence proves to be more than what meets the eye at first glance. Located in Scottsdale, Arizona, this dream house displays a beautifully designed architecture separated into two zones – a 4,300 square feet one used by the family, and another one occupied by guests who often visit – summing up 8,000 square feet of modern living space. Its appealing design was created by Scottsdale-based studio Kendle Design Collaborative, who used the site’s challenges and local materials to shape a luxury residence adapted to its surroundings.
Blocking views from the surrounding properties, solid walls made out of earth and concrete compose a shell in which the architects designed an open floor plan. Deep overhangs shade the glass-defined residence and help focus views towards the natural surroundings and distant city lights. Copper from the Arizona desert, glass, wood and rammed soil from the excavation site compose a low maintenance suite of building materials that sustain the luxurious interiors and help define the outdoor spaces.
