Located in Mill Fold, a village on Irkutsk Reservoir, in Irkutsk Oblast, Russia, the House on the Bay by Andrey Tiguntsev was designed to suit the lifestyle of a a family of three. Half of the construction – the backside, overlooking a forested hill – is dressed in a glass skin that allows the interiors to visually communicate with the surrounding landscape. The residence’s two floors are connected by a wooden staircase with glass railings. One of the vertical windows seen on the side of the house is placed right where the staircase ends, flooding the space with natural light.
On the first floor, a raised platform separates the kitchen and dining area from the living zone and library space. The three steps leading to the captivating living space are doubled on the outside by a second set of three steps leading to the deck surrounding the house from three sides. The first floor volume occupies only three quarters of the ground floor. Rising high from snowy white surroundings, the House on the Bay has earned its place among dream homes, wouldn’t you agree?
