The residence below is a special project, started by the lead man of The Flaming Lips, rocker Wayne Coyne and his wife, artist and photographer Michelle Martin-Coyne. Behind constructing their own residence and studio and naming it the Flaming Lips Residence and Studio, stands the rocker’s promise to rebuild the community in which he grew up. It all started with the renovation of an old warehouse. The owners collaborated with the team of Fitzsimmons Architects to create an outstanding, complex and fascinating collection of spaces where everyday life, entertaining and art meet.
By adding exquisite spaces like the fascinating light blue living and entertaining room, a new master bedroom and bath, kitchen and living spaces, the structure became an interesting home. Fascinating and creative, an egg-shaped outdoor shower – the “Dragon Egg” – sparkles in the sun. This is the first of six adjacent properties that will be connected to the central structure once they will be built. The Compound – as it was named – will stand as a testament of the rocker’s promise to stand by and help the community he grew up in.
