The forested hillside property we present as today’s dream home was designed by Gary Gladwish Architecture. The Eagle Ridge Residence on Orcas Island in Washington State was built by its owner 40 years after seeing the island the first time. Promising herself that she will one day have her dream home in that dream place, the owner commissioned the architects to design and construct a home opened to its surrounding landscape that can inspire and relax her.
Moss-covered rocks and a selection of madrone trees, firs, beech and thistle compose the landscape beyond the dark framed floor-to-ceiling windows. Nature and landscape were always a source of inspiration for the artist living here, so the surroundings can only enhance her comfortable and inspiring lifestyle. Elegant, simple interiors are also low maintenance as the owner needed them to be. Promising an easy old age, the residence takes care of both it’s owner’s spirit and body.
