Located in Atenas, Costa Rica, this magnificent home named Areopagus Residence was built in close connection to its surroundings, from beautiful vistas to the use of natural cooling and passive heating. Being as environmentally-friendly as it is, with hot water and electricity ensured by roof-mounted solar and photovoltaic systems, the modern structure designed by Paravant Architects is adorned with deep overhangs protecting the interiors from harsh direct sunlight.
Spreading its exquisite interiors over 750 square meters, the beautifully designed dwelling welcomes natural light inside through a cleverly designed system of windows. Capturing views of distant San Jose through a fascinating semi-outdoor living space featuring a 16 meter retractable corner glass sliding wall, the inviting entertaining space feels as close to heaven as a human-built structure can be. A huge concrete wall pierced here and there by windows ensures a very private collection of interiors, but fully open to the surroundings on the other side. And then there is the pool – welcoming and also part of the house’s cooling system, it completes the dreamy features this astonishing home has to offer.
