As luxury homes go, this one is a steal. A turnkey modern Horrace Gifford design originally built in the 1960s, the 5-bedroom, 3.5 bath fully furnished beachfront home is going up for auction with only a $1.5 million reserve price via Platinum Luxury Auctions and Sotheby’s.
A well-known modernist architect, Gifford was once considered to be one of the top beach house designers in the country. The property’s current owners, Rona and Joe Forstadt, purchased the Fire Island property more than 35 years ago and have since enjoyed many summers there with friends and family. In 1989,however, a fire nearly destroyed the original residential structure and extensive reconstruction was required. Though retired at the time of the fire, Gifford returned to his trade – at the Forstadt’s request – to restore the home he originally designed. It was the famed architect’s final project.
It boasts 180-degree protected ocean views and a larger footprint than many — the 1,920-square-foot home is on a 14,810 square foot lot with 100 feet of direct ocean frontage. It is located within the prestigious Summer Club Condominium community.
Highlights include 10-foot ceilings, wall-to-wall windows with oceanviews, a chef’s kitchen and a gorgeous wraparound deck.
