Well, this is great news for the publishers of Architectural Digest, Bon Appetit, Vanity Fair and others, as the magazine publishers finally control their websites. This makes total sense, as Condé Nast has been fractured for years — the print VS online mentality has stifled the company. Honestly, Epicurious.com should’ve never been created — that property, that content, should’ve been been built into an online foodie destination named gourmet.com — and that would’ve been the logical companion to Gourmet magazine. Instead, Epi competed with Gourmet, and Bon App for that matter — and just added to the clutter and duplication. Not having a solid web destination made Gourmet magazine further irrelevant, resulting in the magazine shuttering.
After months of waiting, Condé Nast said on Tuesday afternoon that publishers will finally get full control of their Web sites, while Condé Nast Digital will become a shell of what it once was. Sarah Chubb, the president of Condé Nast Digital, loses much of her power and will now oversee content and operations for sites like brides.com, Epicurious and Reddit. – read more from WWD
