Mark Tapscott takes the Range Rover HSE and the Mercedes Benz GL-550 for a spin:
My test vehicles included a “Stornoway Gray” Range Rover HSE, powered by the normally apspirated 4.4 liter v-8 producing 305 horses and connected to a six-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel-drive. Bottom line on the sticker came to $83,375. The second test vehicle for this review was the Mercedes Benz GL-550, the most powerful version of the German automaker’s full-size luxury SUV, thanks to its 383 horsepower 5.5 liter V-8. The GL is also available with either a sophisticated 3.0 liter BlueTEC turbo-deisel in the 320 model, or a 325 horse version of the V-8. Bottom line on the sticker for my Barolo Red test vehicle came to $85,145. – from Examiner
