Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the wife of President John F. Kennedy and one of America’s most iconic first ladies has been noted for her style and elegance. The fashion world remembers the wife of the 35th President of the United States for her impeccable fashion sense and cosmopolitan lifestyle. Christie’s is offering a chance to bid for the wedding jewelry pieces belonging to Jackie O at the sale of more than 350 pieces of jewelry, which will be exhibited in New York ahead of the May 13 auction in Geneva.Five years after Kennedy’s assassination, Jacqueline married Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. Christie’s has put up a pair of ruby and diamond ear pendants and matching ring, which Aristotle Onassis gave to Jacqueline Kennedy for their marriage in 1968. The Van Cleef & Arpels set is estimated at $250,000 to $350,000.
The sale is led by the historically important Maria Christina Royal Devant-de-Corsage brooch, which was presented as a wedding gift from King Alfonso XII of Spain to his wife, the Archduchess Maria Christina of Austria in November 1879. The piece, now owned by Baroness Thyssen-Bornemizsa, is expected to sell for between $1.5 million and $2 million. Christie’s is expecting to bring in a total of $80 million from the sale.
