Shiny, red-lacquered soles are undoubtedly synonymous to Christian Louboutin! Lately the French footwear designer has been commissioned to re-create a pair of slippers to celebrate the opening of Balthus: A Retrospective exhibition in Japan. Polish-French artist Balthus’s wife Setsuko Ideta requested her friend Christian Louboutin to design the shoes to honor the work of late modern artist.
Several years ago, Setsuko had personally embroidered a pair of slippers for her husband. Hence she entrusted the responsibility of remaking the same to the world’s most renowned footwear designer. The limited edition slippers, named Rossinière after Balthus’ chalet in Switzerland, are graphically embroidered platforms suitable for indoor and outdoor wear. Available for about $2,600, only 20 pairs have been created. Balthus: A Retrospective exhibition is open from April 19-June 20 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum and from July 5-September 7 at the Kyoto Municipal Museum. Louboutin-designed Rossinière slippers are available during the same period at both the museums.
