Car service app Uber has today announced the launch of Uber RUSH, a new messenger service available in the NYC area. Details magazine and fashion house Alice + Olivia are among the brands already using the service, which offers fast and reliable messenger service with the same ease with which customers can reserve a taxi or town car. It’s easy to figure out how much each delivery will cost; the app uses a flat $15 per “zone” pricing model, with additional fees for multi-stop trips.
Right now, the service is only available Monday through Friday in Manhattan below 110th, but coverage is expected to grow quickly. At present, messengers deliver packages by bike and subway, and cannot accept oversized items. We also love that the app lets you track delivery of your package just like you would track an Uber car — right from the app.
We can easily see the application of this during our travels. For example, it would be quite simple to deliver a new dress or pair of shoes directly (and affordably) to our hotel room for an evening event, or to retrieve an item left at a restaurant or bar.
What do you think? Would you use Uber RUSH in your city, and where do you want the service to expand next?
