The first trailer for We Bought a Zoo, starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson, was unveiled on September 14, offering a look at the heartwarming true story and its menagerie of animals. The drama by director Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous) is based on the memoir of Benjamin Mee, a widower who purchased a rundown zoo after his wife’s death.
With Damon in the lead role, the footage depicts him struggling as a single father. In an attempt to start fresh with his kids, he looks at moving to a house in the country.
Prompted by his young daughter’s insistence, he decides to purchase it even with a zoo attached to the property with 47 animal species — a lion, tiger, bear and porcupine plus more.
With the help of a zookeeper, played by Scarlett Johansson, he’s able to save the zoo from closing, bring his family together and find a love interest.
Thomas Haden Church (Sideways) and Elle Fanning (Super 8) also stars in the film.
