A retired Virgin Atlantic 747 jet is currently for sale on eBay for the cool buy it now price of $900,000 — less than the price of a freestanding home in areas like DC or San Francisco, or many upper-end NYC apartments. The “Lady Penelope” retired after more than 25 years in the air and has a current bid of just $299k.
The jet, which has already had the engines removed, does not fly, but would make a cool collector’s item for an AV geek. You can also purchase just the fuselage, the wings, or cockpit. The airliner, which cost a cool $25 million when new, is ready to be shipped to its new buyers and can be disassembled and transported in sections.
Vintage aviation fans will love this well-preserved jet, which has much of the interior, including seats, all interior liners, and galley equipment still intact. It also has a unique feature: a large illustration of Virgin’s iconic “flying lady” on both sides of the tail section.
Don’t have room for a plane in your backyard? You could turn this into a restaurant, hotel, an apartment or more, the listing suggests. You could even turn the wings into your roof! The painted parts, measuring 5o’ by 30′, could also be made into unique custom artwork.
h/t to View from the Wing for spotting this awesome offering.
