Unlike many of its Irish kin, Bushmills Malt 16 Year Old is a single malt whiskey.
Bushmills Malt 16 Year Old is made with a ‘Three Wood’ maturation and finishing, giving it a fullness of depth and flavor. The barrels used are a combination of American bourbon barrels and Spanish Oloroso sherry butts. The bourbon infuses the whiskey with a taste of honey, wood and vanilla, while the sherry wood contributes a sweet, fruity, nutty flavor. Finally, the malt is vatted and married for many months in large old port wine pipes.
When done, you end up was a slightly sweet, mellow single malt. It comes out distinctly sweet and spicy, with hints of almonds and even toffee.
Bushmills Malt 16 Year Old is not to be missed.
You can buy a bottle for around $60-70.
