Today Rolls-Royce formally announced what we have been hearing whispers about for the last few months, a new platform will be added to the lineup joining Phantom, Ghost and Wraith.
While they are not saying what style the new vehicle will be, they are dropping some very big hints. This passage from the letter we received from the company’s Chairman, Peter Schwarzenbauer and Chief Executive, Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes states, “Rolls-Royces conveyed pioneers and adventurers like Lawrence of Arabia across the vastness of unexplored deserts and over mountain ranges. In other parts of the world including Australia, India and the Americas, Rolls-Royces carried their owners over challenging terrain with absolute reliability and comfort. History sets our precedent and our future calls us to action.”
What can we read into this?
One thing is for sure: this new Roller will feature all-wheel drive and have substantial all-terrain capabilities. It will be big and carry The Spirit of Ecstasy to places that Rolls-Royce motor cars can’t go today. We won’t go so far as to definitively state it will be an SUV or Crossover, but given that they claim it will be “a high-bodied car, with an all-new aluminium architecture… This new Rolls-Royce will be Effortless… Everywhere.” we’d lay good money on that bet.
No timetable has been announced. Again from the letter, “This new journey begins now. We will take our time in developing and perfecting this new concept in luxury.” Expect it to be available sometime in late 2017 or 2018. As more details become available, you can count on Pursuitist to bring them to you first.
