Pop sensation Justin Bieber, Grammy Award winner Arcade Fire and the Angry Birds mobile game are among the nominees for the Webby Awards, the leading international honor for web content.
Bieber was nominated for the video “Justin Bieber Takes Over Funny Or Die”, while Arcade Fire were noted for the video “We Used to Wait” for the 15th annual awards where nominees were revealed on Tuesday.
The winners will be announced May 3 and honored at a gala on June 13 in New York.
Other celebrities nominated include actors Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell, Chevy Chase and Meryl Streep and singers Katy Perry and Bob Dylan.
The website Funny Or Die received 10 nominations while The New York Times website received 18.
The Angry Birds game, which has been a pop culture phenomenon and features birds destroying the pigs which stole their eggs with the help of a slingshot, was nominated in the best mobile games category.
Award organizers said the eclectic mix of nominees showed how the Internet has been a driving influence in pop culture.
Some of the main awards include best viral video and individual performance, as well as comedy and drama categories.
