Entertainer Beyonce and her hip-hop mogul husband Jay-Z welcomed their baby girl Blue Ivy Carter on Saturday evening. E! News reported that sources told the network that Blue Ivy is the name Jay-Z has been telling his close friends – the couple chose “Ivy” because of the significance of the number “4” or “IV,” — Beyonce and Jay-Z were born on Sept. 4 and Dec. 4, respectively, were married on April 4, 2008, and Beyonce’s latest album is entitled 4. E! also reported that Blue Ivy Carter was born via scheduled C-Section at Lennox Hill Hospital. The hospital is only a few miles from the couple’s TriBeCa, Manhattan apartment, where they spend most of their time while not on tour. Jay-Z, whose real name Shawn Carter, was by his wife’s side as she gave birth, and he paid $1.3 million to rent out the entire fourth floor of the hospital. A source told Beyonce’s hometown newspaper Houston Chronicle that ‘mother and baby are doing fine’.
However, there’s been some confusion if the baby’s name is Blue Ivy Carter or Ivy Blu Carter. It was Beyonce and Jay-Z’s close friend Gwyneth Paltrow that confirmed that baby’s name is indeed Blue Ivy: “Welcome to the world, Blue,” Paltrow tweeted Sunday. “We love you already.” … And she later tweeted: “RT @Sparrow_Teague @GwynethPaltrow is it ivy blue, or blue ivy? so confused..It’s Blue Ivy Carter!”
Friend Rihanna gave baby Blue a warm welcome, tweeting: “Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih.” Russell Simmons also tweeted: “congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z.”
