Betsey Johnson unveiled her Eloise-themed Christmas tree at the Plaza Hotel last night. The ever so pink tree will remain on view through January 4.
The 18-foot tall, bright pink tree in the hotel’s Fifth Avenue entryway is an ode to them both. It is chock full with ornaments, toys, paper dolls and wrapped in a combination of paper chains, tinsel and furry boas. The trickiest design element, Johnson said, was the stuffed Eloise doll tree topper. “The one problem with the Eloise doll is you can’t take her clothes off,” Johnson said. Determined to get her out of her black-and-white uniform and into a “classic Betsey prom dress,” Johnson cut off the clothes and remade the arms with specially-dyed jersey.
