Famed Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield took center stage at the Agenda Trade Show in Long Beach, California and discussed his upcoming Nike MAG shoe with Power Laces that tie themselves.
Nice Kicks reports that Mr. Hatfield confirmed that his team is hard at work on the innovation, although he did not give a release date.
The space age-looking high-top Nike MAG sneaker is themed around the 1985 film “Back to the Future,” and hero Marty McFly.
Nice Kicks posted Nike’s patent papers for the shoe and the Power Laces online, noting that they have changed drastically since Nice Kicks first spotted them in 2010 when they were referred to as the Nike Air MAG sneakers.
For starters, it appears there will be no Air unit because the power lacing system takes up too much room in the midsole.
The shoe is also equipped with a weight sensor whose function remains unknown.

Other ways to circumvent shoe tying include the Zubits magnetic closure system, which saves considerable time.
Zubits successfully finished its Kickstarter campaign in early November, earning over $360,000 and smashing its goal of $29,000.
The start-up is still offering units for pre-order at $20, with delivery expected in February.
