Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York celebrated it official grand opening with a star-studded guest list that included the likes of Martha Stewart, Ann Dexter-Jones, John Demsey and Fern Mallis. Bringing the best blend of contemporary Manhattan and elegant Paris under its roof, the 250 year-old Baccarat crystal brand’s first hotel is located just across the street from the Museum of Modern Art in the Big Apple.

While the guests were served flutes of Champagne in Baccarat crystal, of course, the spread included plates of lobster risotto, smoked salmon cream puffs, spring pea soufflé and seared pork belly.

However a lavish caviar display complete with a flight of toppings proved to be the crowd favorite, as reported by WWD. According to Martha Stewart, the party was a success, “Attention, good staffing, catering to a customer’s needs and wants. And this looks like it is doing all of it.”

Rising up at 20 West 53^rd Street, the lower levels of the hotel are veiled by a 125-foot wide corrugated crystal-like curtain. The skyline-shaping international architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, designed the soaring state-of-the-art tower itself, creating a prismatic glass façade that recalls the radiance of Baccarat crystal and subtly reflects and refracts light up and down its 50 stories.

Paris-based design duo Gilles & Boissier created nearly every piece of furniture for the hotel’s soaring salon-style public spaces, as well as the 114 light-filled rooms and suites of the hotel. Their magnetic touch is visible in form of a sparkling mica-covered vaulted ceiling, silver-leafed wood paneling, pleated-silk walls as well as a monumental marble table.

The 60 residences and the ground-level contemporary French restaurant, Chevalier have been done up by New York design masters Tony Ingrao and Stephen Sills, respectively.

Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York is also dotted with artworks based on the iconic Baccarat Harcourt glasses. These radiant pieces stand on display in dramatically lit glass vitrines in the hotel’s hallways, one unique artwork in front of every guestroom or suite. The lobby welcomes the guests with a 20-by-25-foot wall adorned with more than 2,000 of Baccarat Harcourt glasses.

Each of hotel’s 114 guest rooms and suites feels like a private pied-a-terre. Guests can opt for the generous Classic King or settle for the “piece de resistance”, the Baccarat Presidential Suite.

The signature contemporary French restaurant Chevalier takes its name from Baccarat’s longtime and most beloved creative director, Georges Chevalier and redefines the brasserie de luxe in New York City. Throughout the hotel, guests can sip drinks from a kaleidoscope of more than 15,000 pieces of mixed-and-matched Baccarat crystal stemware.

Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York in collaboration with ultra-prestigious skincare brand La Mer is also home to the first Spa de La Mer in the United States.

Baccarat Hotels & Resorts launched in March 2015 with the opening of its flagship New York property. This will be followed by Rabat, Morocco, in 2016, with additional openings in Dubai and Doha over the course of the next several years.
