A collection of more than 60 photos, including the Beatles, Marilyn Monroe and Malcolm X, will be auctioned next month by Christie’s in Paris. The images are from legendary photographer Richard Avedon. The proceeds will go to the Avedon’s endowment – which supports the teaching of photography.
The collection will feature some rare and never-before-seen images. In addition to some celebrity photos, there will also be images of Paris, many shot early in Avedon’s career.
Also available is one of Avedon’s most famous photos, “Dovima with elephants, evening dress by Dior, Cirque d’Hiver, Paris, August 1955.” The photo is estimated to sell for $500,000-$700,000.
Avedon died in 2004.
