Happy Birthday, Audi quattro Cup: the world finale in Sardinia concluded the anniversary season of the most popular series for amateur golfers. Teams from 52 nations played for the Cup that was staged for the 20th time this year on one of the most beautiful courses in the Mediterranean region. More than 80,000 golfers in total contested this year’s tournament series on the green worldwide.

Kim Yeon Gul and Lee Ho Chan from South Korea (Group netto A, team handicap 0–13) as well as Pei Yuhe and Li Meng from China (Group netto B, team handicap 14–36) are the winners of the world finale. In two rounds of 18 holes each they prevailed against international competitors. The two German teams that had qualified with victories in the German finale in Frankfurt in September occupied positions twelve and 28 (Group B, team handicap 14–36).

“Congratulations to the winners. Anyone who prevails against this strong international competition and keeps their cool at the grand finale as well is no doubt a worthy champion of the 2010 Audi quattro Cup,” says Lothar Korn, Head of Marketing Communications of AUDI AG. “But we also wish to thank the golfers all over the world who have made the anniversary season of our tournament series a very special one. We’re already looking forward to teeing off to the third decade.”

At the invitation of regional Audi partners, more than 80,000 players had competed in a total of 765 tournaments around the globe to qualify for the finale of the Audi quattro Cup. The Pevero Golf Club in Sardinia was the venue of the pinnacle of the anniversary season. With its rock formations, the 18-hole facility on the oceanfront is regarded as one of the most beautiful as well as most demanding ones in the Mediterranean region. Beyond the activities of the tournament the guests also experienced an attractive program there: Peter Hanson from Sweden, the current winner of the Ryder Cup, revealed some of the tricks with which he has achieved as many as ten victories on the European Tour. Golf freestyler and reigning World Champion Geoff Swain thrilled the audience with examples of his trick show.

The Audi quattro Cup marks the conclusion of a varied and successful golf season for Audi. Its highlight was again the brand’s showing as the Presenting Sponsor at the UniCredit Ladies German Open at Golfpark Gut Häusern which had attracted 17,000 spectators to the outskirts of Munich in May.

After the European victory just a few days ago the public has also begun to increasingly focus on the Ryder Cup. For the first time since the inaugural event in 1927 Germany desires to play host to the world’s most prestigious golf tournament for the first time in 2018. Audi supports the bid of RC Deutschland GmbH with the facility of the Wittelsbacher Ausgleichsfonds in Neuburg an der Donau for this purpose. Should Germany be selected, Audi would support the construction of the tournament facility and the region around Ingolstadt would receive an additional golf center – the Audi Course – that is fit for championships. Besides Germany, four additional European countries are competing for the selection as the venue of the 2018 Ryder Cup. The decision will be announced in spring.
