Aston Martin released a very intriguing video a few days ago and after doing some digging we now know what its cryptic message is. In order to keep up with Porsche, Bentley and Ferrari, Aston Martin will be making a street version of their successful Vantage GT3 race car.
Set to debut in Geneva this March, the car promises to transfer many performance and design features from the cars that are campaigned in the Blancpain GT Series at tracks that include Le Mans, Spa, Silverstone and the Nurburgring.
The Vantage GT3 will undoubtedly be lighter and more powerful than the standard model. We’re expecting close to 600 horsepower to make it competitive with the Bentley Continental GT3. Those pining for a manual transmission will be out of luck. The Vantage GT3 will feature their Sportshift automatic transmission with paddle shifters. With Sportshift, gear changes are up to three times faster than a traditional manual making the car quicker on the track, and that’s what these models are all about.
Thanks to our friends at Pistonheads, spy photos from a testing day at the Nurburgring are available here, here, here and here! You’ll notice the wider tail, vented hood and more aggressive front fascia, all making the beautiful tourer just a little more sinister.
Production volume will probably be around 100 models, so if you want to have one of these special Vantage models in your garage, we suggest you talk to your Aston Martin dealer today. We’ll have more details about the Vantage GT3 as they become available.
