Talk about fast fashion: Apple unveiled its first smart watch — yes, the one that is due out early next year — Tuesday morning at Colette.
“Fashion is popular culture, technology is popular culture,” WWD reports Apple’s Marc Newson mused at the early week event. “Fashion has its finger on the pulse… There are very few creative industries that work on that rhythm.”
And so it made sense that the landmark concept store on the Rue Saint-Honore would add this trendy tech to its mix of fashion, music, beauty, books, food and accessories. “It’s complementary,” Sarah Andelman, Creative Director and Purchasing Manager, said of such products as smartphones — and now smartwatches.
Newson, who has also designed timepieces for Ikepod and other fashion houses, suggested that “the wrist is the best place to wear technology,” and stressed that this new accessory is “not a big, dopey, plastic, horrible thing.”
Instead, it boasts a stylish range of interchangeable straps with magnetic fasteners. Features include the ability to signal messages from friends with a tap on the wrist.
Because in the world of fashion, isn’t it about time?
