There’s little not to love about staying in Downton Abbey-esque style at a real life castle. Ashford Castle, one of Ireland’s premier country estates, is currently undergoing a top-to-bottom update courtesy of its new owners.
Parts of Ashford Castle date back to 1228, so the current restoration work includes an intricate overhaul of the building’s infrastructure, including stonework, windows and roofs, as well as modern updates like air conditioning and WiFi. The three-phase project is nearly complete, with updates already in place for the hotel’s top luxury suites.
The final updates will be finished by March of 2015, and include installation of a full-service spa, indoor pool, cinema, billiard room and cigar terrace.
