Civil rights pioneer Dorothy Irene Height died yesterday at age 92.
The last time civil rights icon and social activist Dorothy Irene Height travelled for a public appearance, she came to Chicago to view an exhibit that honored her and other pioneering African-American women. During her visit in January, Ms. Height asked to speak to a group of children with hopes of inspiring them to become strong and devoted community leaders. She appeared frail, but her voice was strong as she told the young people to continue the fight to which she had devoted so many years of her life. “All of you are aware, we’ve come a long way,” she said. “But we’ve got a long way to go.” – From Chicago Tribune
