Laurence Chandler and Joshua Cooper, designers of NY based menswear brand Rochambeau, held their FW16 runway show during NYFW:M this week. The 27 looks from the collection were presented at Skylight Studios.
The collection’s inspiration was derived from Tupac Shakur’s film Juice where they drew upon early 90’s style conveying New York roots. A DJ battle between Jus Ke and Chase B set the vibe of an underground party that conveyed Pac’s likeness. Oversized fits with pops of bright oranges, mustards and browns added to the 90’s feel of the collection.
Standout pieces from the collection included a military inspired poncho, raglan jumper, oversized shorts, dungarees and bungee pants.
According to Chandler and Cooper: “We were reacting against slim silhouettes – and looking at early 90s; we landed on Tupac Shakur’s seminal film Juice as a key reference. Our guy was tough, were layers [sic], NYC. We worked with modern fabrics, detailing and color to make it feel fresh.”
