2026 Audi Q3 S line quattro – Four Ring Perfection

After years of driving Datsun “Z” cars during my teen and young adult years, I finally realized that Japanese cars at the time were built for economy and in the case of the 280Z, performance, but were seriously deficient in the safety category.

With the then pending birth of my daughter, I scrapped my Z, and ditched the Ford Festiva her mom was driving. When our daughter Eden was born, she came home in a Volvo 740 Wagon, and I replaced the Z with an Audi 5000. I immediately fell in love with the Germany-built sedan for its safety, groundbreaking aerodynamic style, comfort features and performance.

Over the years, I graduated to an Audi 200 quattro (all-wheel drive), and a high-performance Audi S4 quattro. To say I was in love with the brand with four rings would be an understatement.

Fast forward to 2026, and Audi is still doing their thing – but at a much higher level.

Pursuitist was recently invited to idyllic San Luis Obispo California to test drive the latest example of Four Ring Perfection, the all-new 2026 Audi Q3 S line quattro compact luxury Sport Utility Vehicle.

Over five hours of driving through scenic hills and along the Pacific Ocean, the Q3 S line quattro did not disappoint.

Audi Q3 S line quattro Exterior Styling

The new Q3 is both handsome and gorgeous, and has appeal that crosses genders. During our test drive, we stopped at scenic locations along the Pacific Ocean, and several folks inquired about the SUV, with loads of positive sentiments on Q3 styling.

The long and lean exterior design of the new Q3 is defined by signature elements like the large “Singleframe” grille, integrated LED headlights, dynamic shoulder lines, and S line bumpers.

Up front, newly designed full LED headlights come standard on all 2026 Q3 trims. The new lamps include customizable digital daytime running lights with LED technology, consisting of 23 segments per side, which can create up to three distinctive light signatures.

Necessary?

No.

Cool?

Yes, hella cool! Small details that contribute to the overall design are the hallmark of the Q3 and all new Audi models.

At the rear, of the new Q3 is adorned with standard LED taillights which include dynamic turn signals and animated sequences as part of the coming home/leaving home function. Rear Q3 lighting also features a continuous LED light strip and illuminated Audi rings (four rings) that look great at night. Digital OLED taillights are available as part of the optional Technology Package, but again our test rigs were fully optioned.

Also, for the first time in the model line, the new Q3 comes standard with dual-pane acoustic glass for the front side windows, which helps reduce road and wind noise, particularly at higher speeds.

Three wheel sizes/designs are available on the new Q3. For a super smooth ride, choose 18″ multispoke wheels, while 19″ 10-spoke “Aero” wheels with a bi-color finish, and 20″ 5-spoke “Tripod” wheels, also with a bicolor finish, are aesthetically impactful.

Audi Q3 S line quattro Interior Comfort & Technology

The interior of the Q3 focuses heavily on technology and comfort. Prominent features in the wraparound Audi Virtual Cockpit, an 11.9‑inch fully digital instrument cluster, allow for customizable driving information directly in the driver’s line of sight; while a 12.8‑inch touchscreen display dominates the upper center console, and integrates navigation, media controls, and vehicle settings.

Smartphone connectivity is seamless thanks to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad keeps devices powered if you choose not to access the dual USB-C charging ports in the center console. Audi connect NAV & PLUS services provide additional connected features and enhanced navigation features.

Overhead, a panoramic glass sunroof brightens the cabin and three‑zone automatic climate control allows for individualized temperature settings for driver and passengers. The front seats are power adjustable and heated, with memory settings for the driver, and wood trim accents are a luxe touch.

Our full-tilt test vehicles included the aforementioned Technology Package, which adds a head‑up display along with distinctive OLED taillights that enhance both style and visibility.

The Infotainment Package further upgrades the experience with a premium SONOS sound system, SiriusXM, and the aforementioned USB‑C power delivery ports for faster device charging. Additional exterior enhancements such as LED headlights with high‑beam assist, and the Black Optic package with anthracite Audi rings and black exterior trim complete the stylish yet athletic appearance.

Audi Q3 S line quattro Drive Experience

Audi’s talented communications/media team picked the perfect roads to showcase the Q3 S line’s impressive power and road manners.

The new Q3 delivers a significant increase in performance through an updated 2.0-liter TFSI 4-cylinder engine and a new S tronic 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The engine is now tuned to produce 255 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque; 27 more horsepower and 22 more pound-feet of torque over the previous generation Q3. Coupled with the new transmission and standard quattro all-wheel drive, new Q3 accelerates to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, a 1.6 sec. improvement over the previous Q3 S line model.

During the drive, quattro all-wheel drive instilled driver confidence. Trust me, with many California roads through hills and mountains with precipitous drop-offs — some with no guard rails or nighttime illumination, confidence-inspiring handing is a big plus. Quattro, coupled with new for the 2026 Q3 variable ratio “Progressive” power steering — which dials in more or less input as needed through twisty roads and street corners, and when parking; complete any weather or road DNA for the new Q3.

Even though I’m 6’9”, I found the driving position comfortable for our extended drive.

Audi Q3 S line quattro Safety & Convenience Features

Audi equips the Q3 with a comprehensive range of advanced driver‑assistance systems. For example, Adaptive Cruise Assist helps maintain a set speed and distance from the vehicle ahead, while traffic sign recognition provides alerts about speed limits and road signage.

Parking and maneuvering are easier thanks to Park Assist Plus which offers a trainable parking feature that remembers the parameters of your regular parking spot and allows the car to pull in or out on demand, while a top‑view 360‑degree camera system provides a detailed view around the vehicle. Rear cross‑traffic alert and blind spot monitoring awareness world well, and are assets when changing lanes or reversing.

The Q3 also includes, among many other safety features, lane departure warning technology that alerts you if your Q3 drifts from its lane. Audi Pre Sense Front helps detect potential collisions by providing forward collision warnings and automatic emergency braking when necessary.

Additional safety systems include electronic stability control, anti‑lock braking system with brake assist, and an airbag protection system with nine airbags, including an airbag between front seat driver and passenger.

One personal mantra I’ve preached since my Datsun Z days is to always buy vehicles based on safety. The new Q3, and all modern Audi models, deliver a wide array of lifesaving safety technology.

Well done Audi!
