Louis Vuitton has stirred up attention by roping in six distinguished icons synonymous to fashion for an exclusive project, The Icons and The Iconoclasts. Initiated to mark the house’s 160th anniversary and commemorate the iconic LV Monogram, the project has been conceptualised by Delphine Arnault, Executive Vice President of Louis Vuitton along with Artistic Director of Women’s Collections, Nicolas Ghesquiere.
Along with Karl Lagerfeld, legendary designers like Christian Louboutin and Rei Kawakubo, photographer and film director Cindy Sherman, architect Frank Gehry and industrial designer Marc Newson will be designing a line of classic LV bags, trunks and luggage pieces highlighting the signature Monogram.
The unique collection is believed to include a punching bag designed by Karl, a men’s bag by Marc and bags and trunks by Cindy and Karl too.
Arnault spoke about the project, “When we talked with Nicolas Ghesquiere about the extraordinary talents we would like to approach we simply went to those who are among the best in their fields. We were interested in people who work with their minds and their hands. I thought it was so interesting – and fun! – to have all of these different points of view on the Monogram. It is inspiring to see how they envision things, to see their perspectives. This is a group of geniuses.” WWD also reported her statement, “We have assembled an amazing group of talents – geniuses, I would say. Each one is among the best in his or her field. The monogram is at the centre of our house, so we celebrate it every day. But we thought this project was really special because the personalities we chose are fascinating and diverse.”
While Michael Burke, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Louis Vuitton also quoted, “Monogram is timeless, yet with this project we wanted to celebrate it in a way that defied the conventions of ‘classic’.”
Ranging from $2,725 to $5,450, the highly sought-after, limited edition collection will hit selected Louis Vuitton stores from mid-October. The the Icon and the Iconoclasts: A Celebration of Monogram launch event will take place in New York City on November 7th, 2014.
