The suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, are scattered with fantastic modern residences, one of them perfect to be today’s dream home. I’m thinking of the Elizabeth Street Residence – a home so beautiful, that it will challenge you to pay attention to all the details. Imagined by Jackson Clements Burrows, this contemporary house was finished in 2012 and the family can now enjoy it to its full potential.
The Melbourne-based design practice have constructed a chic collection of interiors captured in a sculptural shell. According to the architects, “the approach taken was to find a solution that could be contextual, but also challenge the default rear-yard configuration of the typical suburban dwelling. This was achieved by dividing the site lengthwise to create a parallel format of ‘house’ versus ‘landscape’. The main form of the dwelling has been aligned on the southern boundary, enabling the habitable spaces to take full advantage of a panoramic, north-facing garden. By positioning a ‘pavilion’ at each end, the garden then becomes a private space that is an essential part of the architecture.”
The street facade presents the large family dwelling as a sculptural modern construction with deep windows and a sloping roof. The house and its garden are perfectly adapted to the specific site conditions, as well as tho the needs of its owners. Public and private spaces were divided according to the need of adults and children alike. Seamlessly connected to the outdoors via large glazed doors, this dream home displays an elegant contemporary style inside and out.
And how about those delicious wooden ceilings prolonging outdoors? Details like this make a home exemplary, don’t you think?
