Following the richly colored Pixel Cabinet featured on Pursuitist, this luxurious piece of furniture comes to show that Boca do Lobo can update the Portuguese modern heritage by designing a sculptural piece of furniture inspired by their country’s hand-painted tiles tradition. Presented under the name of “Heritage Sideboard“, the dynamically designed furniture item measures 162 cm in width, 90 cm in height and 50 cm in depth. Its name suggests the struggle to keep a tradition alive. They try to draw attention towards a culturally significant feature, challenging Portuguese design to break the boundaries and become more recognizable.
Boca do Lobo’s team of designers, sculptors, photographers and marketers successfully spreads exceptional Portuguese inspiration and familiarize the world with the future of this country’s influence on furniture design. Each of the different layers of the sideboard present tile paintings inspired by different periods of Portuguese history. Recovered from different historic buildings – convents or old colleges – the tiles on the outside are complemented by a gold leaf interior, reminiscent of highly ornamented gold interiors of historical buildings.
