This is a Pursuitist hands-on review: a weekend with the 2015 Lexus 460 GX, a tough and luxurious SUV with the latest technology. Watch our video review below:
As an owner of a 7 year old Lexus RX, I couldn’t wait to take their latest GX upgrade for a spin. My initial impressions — the GX is certainly more spacious and aggressive than the RX, in more ways than one.
The GX includes a powerful 301-horsepower V-8 that accelerates strongly with no flat spots, allowing you to go from 0 to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds. The six-speed automatic transmission provides quick, smooth shifts.
Ride quality is remarkably good with the GX, and the cabin is quiet and comfortable. As expected from this brand, this is a luxury SUV with an exceptional attention to detail and design. The leather-trimmed interior is sleek, roomy and lush, while seat preferences are personalized to each driver and passenger.
The GX also includes a versatile third row. It may not be the most comfortable spot in the vehicle, but it certainly is convenient. When the third row is hidden, you’re provided with ample cargo space.
The 2015 GX Lexus includes a new spindle grille, LED daytime-running lights and headlamps, and new wheels. The GX offers numerous features and premiums, including leather-trimmed interior, tri-zone climate control, navigation, heated/ventilated front seats, heated 2nd-row seats, park assist, and the Lexus Enform App suite with subscription-free services such as Bing, Yelp and Pandora.
Comparing the GX to our faithful RX, the GX features more space, more power and more safety features. Now available are blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, dynamic cruise control, lane-departure warning and even a camera-based system that monitors whether the driver is paying attention when an obstacle is detected in front of the vehicle.
From the city to the country, this rugged yet smart SUV loves to multi-task. Go to the museum, to the golf course, to the resort — and arrive in style.
The 2015 Lexus 460 GX starts at $49,085. Fully loaded, the GX can hit the $70,000 mark.
