Having departed WSJ’s AllThingsD, journalists and co-executive editors Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher have launched a new technology website entitled Re/Code. The site, featuring tech news, gadget reviews and events, will officially launch after New Year’s Day, according to a message on the landing page:

“While we think tech news is important, it’s a better day to refresh, reimagine, reinvent and, most of all, rest. But get ready: Re/code will launch at midnight ET, January 2.” –Kara Swisher, Walt Mossberg and the entire Re/code team

On the Re/Code Facebook page, their status updates states: “Let’s Re/create a home for smart, fair and independent tech journalism on the Web.”

Walt also shared via Twitter that the entire talented staff of AllThingsD is making the move to Re/Code. “Our new site is http://recode.net. It features the entire staff that brought you @allthingsd. Brand is Re/code. Twitter is @Recode.”

In September, the WSJ announced it would not renew its contract with Walt and Kara. Instead, the tech duo decided to launch their own venture. According to Bloomberg, the new startup will be majority controlled by Walt and Kara, “with NBCUniversal and another unnamed investor together taking about a third of the business.”

Last night, Kara, Ken and Walt rang in the New Year together by having dinner at Zingari Ristorante in San Francisco (pictured at right).

Jonathan Krim, WSJD Global Technology Editor, adds: “We also will host live events around the globe throughout the year, providing opportunities to interact with top technology newsmakers, thinkers and entrepreneurs.” The inaugural WSJ.D Conference will occur on October 27-29, 2014 in Laguna Beach, California.
